The NBA has this crazy concept that there must be 72 hours, give or take, between each game in its best-of-7 championship series. There have been three days between Games 1 and 2, and there’s three more before Wednesday’s Game 3.
But we at Covers figured: Why wait until game day for an action report? So we talked early odds and action with Nick Bogdanovich, director of trading for William Hill US; Jay Rood, vp of race and sports for MGM Resorts; and an oddsmaker for online site BetNow.Golden State Warriors at Cleveland Cavaliers – Open: Cavaliers -1; Move: Warriors -1
Golden State thumped Cleveland 104-89 as a 6-point home favorite in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, and for Cavaliers fans who thought it couldn’t get worse, well, it surely could. In Game 2 Sunday night, the soldiers boatraced the Cavs 110-77 laying 6.5 points at home to take a 2-0 series lead.
Heading home for Game 3, the Cavs were an early favorite, nevertheless it didn’t last long.
“The early money was on Golden State,” Bogdanovich said of action at William Hill’s shops in Las Vegas. “The bettors might need washed their hands of Cleveland until the Cavs prove they are able to play with this team.”
At MGM books, the road also moved from Cavs -1 to Warriors -1, then shifted Monday evening to a pick ‘em. However the a lot more significant move – and rightfully so – came with the series price.
“The price to win the series at this time is really what we call an out price,” Rood said Monday from The Mirage sportsbook. “If you’re wanting Golden State, you’re gonna need to publish quite a lot of cash to win just a little of change.”
Rood said Golden State is now -1000 to win the series, meaning a $1,000 bet would yield just $100 if the soldiers repeat as champions.
BetNow opened the Cavs as 2-point chalk in Game 3 before adjusting to a pick ‘em.
“We got some big action for the soldiers once the lines opened up,” BetNow’s oddsmaker said. “If the fad continues, we predict the soldiers may well be 3-point favorites, anywhere from here until game time.”
And with Games 1 and a pair of both falling far wanting the total, William Hill books and BetNow were both seeing noticeable play at the under, with the overall at 206.5.
