It has been an exciting week of poker at the Royal Dublin Society in Dublin at the European Poker Tour Dublin festival. A couple of players with success in high rollers before they came to Ireland have won them again, with Mustapha Kanit taking down the €25,750 High Roller and Charlie Carrel triumphing in the €10,200 Single-Day High Roller.
Meanwhile they’ve reached Day 4 of the €5,300 Main Event where just 45 players remain from a field of 605, all vying for the €561,900 prize awaiting the winner. The top 87 finishers in the Main Event are dividing the €2,934,250 prize pool, and yesterday came the bursting of the money bubble and all of the usual tension that moment provides.
During the break just preceding the bubble, poker pro Nick Petrangelo spoke with PokerNews about tournament bubble strategy, offering thoughts about how both the big stacks and those who are on the short side should alter their usual approach as the bubble nears.
Besides having a wealth of tournament experience — including earning over $4 million in tournaments and being currently ranked No. 4 in the Global Poker Index — Petrangelo had some immediate bubble experience to discuss after coming close to missing the cash in the €25,750 High Roller but surviving to ladder up a couple of spots to take seventh for €84,040.
Hear what Petrangelo has to say about big stacks applying pressure, short stacks needing to be selective, how non-pros and pros differently view the bubble, and how prestigious events like an EPT Main Event might also affect bubble strategy.
Petrangelo survived the bubble in good shape yesterday and returns to a just below average stack for today’s Day 4 with 45 players remaining. Stick with PokerNews for live updates, photos, videos, and more from the EPT12 Dublin Main Event as they play down to a winner over the next three days, and don’t forget the €10,300 High Roller starts today as well, also due to complete on Saturday.
