It's been an explosive start to Day 2 of the EPT11 Prague €10,000 High Roller as the record breaking field has been more than cut in half during the first five levels of Day 2 action. With 13 re-entries and two entirely new ones before the start of play today the field climbed to a massive 309 runners, comprised of 233 unique entries and 76 players who'd fired a second bullet.
All told 141 players still had chips when Day 2 started at midday local time but now just 60 players remain in with a chance of scooping the €606,400 first prize. So almost two-thirds of those remaining will add at least €20,890 to their lifetime winnings before this tournament is over as the top 39 finishers will get paid.
So far today it's been a case of the rich getting richer as Dan Shak is the man who currently sits atop the chip counts. The American has been mulit-tabling, sort of. In between hands he's been clicking buttons on his laptop. although you suspect hat has nothing to do with poker and everything to do with business. Shak has been making it his business to grow his chip stack so far today as he's gone from 267,900 to 1,040,000 in a little over five hours of play.
His biggest boost came when he eliminated Thomas Holm a short time ago. The majority of the chips went in on the turn of a [5s][Ad][3d][Jd] board with Holm jamming over Shak's turn bet and Shak making the call. Holm held [Ac][Jc] for two pair, he was ahead of Shak's [As][Kd] but had some outs to dodge. The river card was the [5d] giving Shak a pot of almost 470,000 and the chip lead.
If Shak looks over his shoulder he's not going to like what he sees as the chasing pack is led by none other than Ole Schemion. Although the reigning EPT Player of the Year is some way behind Shak he's built his stack up to 620,000. And it doesn't get any easier as Ari Engel (450,000), Roman Emelyanov (440,000) and Andrey Zaichenko (386,000) complete the top five.
As mentioned above 15 players were in the possession of a fresh stack of 50,000 (25 big blinds) when play got under way. One of those players was Engel, but Steve O'Dwyer has also run his stack up as with 305,000 and he's nestled within the top 10. Not everyone was as lucky (or good) though as Timothy Adams, Juha Helppi and Jani Sointula are all out for a second time.
Play will continue until the final table is reached or until 10 levels have been completed, with a strong likelihood it'll be the latter.
