ANZPT6 Melbourne Day 3: Finals fever

September. The first day of Spring. A new season. A fresh start. Flowers are blooming and birds are singing. New life.

September is all of those things, but if you ask a typical 20-something male living in Melbourne what September means to them, they will probably say "footy finals". Well, at least if they're not a Collingwood supporter.

Finals fever sweeps the city of Melbourne during September. Football is talked about on TV, on the radio, in the newspapers, at the water cooler at work. Fans will wear their team scarfs on the train into work. Local business will have the finals draw posted in their storefront window. Cars will drive the streets with their team flag flapping in the wind out the backseat window.

Melbourne is a city that is passionate about finals, and we're expecting to see that very same passion inside the Crown Poker Room today. It's September and today is our grand final.

There are 34 players returning today for the final day of the ANZPT Melbourne Main Event. It's a small number in comparison to the 516 who started this event three days ago, but it's still a long way short of the $253,000 winner's cheque.

The clubhouse leader is Vincent Chua. It's a position he's been able to maintain for the last two days, so if that trend continues, he'll be raising the trophy a little later this evening.

But it's not that easy and Chua will have to get past a host of talented players including Dylan Honeyman, Anthony Legg, Michael Chrisanthopoulos, Phil Willcocks, Edison Nguyen, Luke Edwards, Anthony Aston and Aussie larrikin Dennis Huntly.

It's going to be a long day at the office for players, staff and reporters alike. Estimates are a minimum of eleven levels, possibly even more like twelve or thirteen, until we crown a champion. That will mean an early AM finish for sure, so we hope our players got some good rest after last night's PokerStars player's party. They'll need all their strength and stamina to endure the physical and mental pressures of a long day if they want to be crowned our ANZPT Melbourne champion.
