You could say that Chris Moneymaker is the people's champion. The yankee democratised the sport of poker when he won the arena Series of Poker Main Event in 2003 as a PokerStars online qualifier. Even supposing you do not entirely buy that, you will have trouble arguing that the sport wasn't popularised by his have-a-go hero win. Unlike some of the scary Texans and old time hustlers, Chris gave the impression of a man you could have a lager with while cracking some jokes and playing some cards. And, you know, maybe win one million bucks while doing so.

"I am pretty much known for sinking a couple of and can possibly shut down the party," said Moneymaker, on the way to come as no surprise if you have been to the PCA. "In my older years, I'VE slowed somewhat and will find the door around 3am and some beers lighter, but, either way, I expect the party to be fun. I always rejoice hosting at my table or simply mingling at the dance floor."
