Delaware's sports gambling began anyway with the beginning of the NFL season, because the court upheld Delaware's right to conduct NFL parlay betting because it had before the passing of the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act. However the limited betting, with the unfavorable odds offered on parlays, resulted in much lower revenues than Delaware leaders had hoped.
"The State of Delaware will need to have its day in court," said Governor Jack Markell. "We believe there are important legal and factual questions that are supposed to be heard by all the court."
Delaware casinos invested millions in preparing for the coming of sports gambling, and now is also lucky to recoup their investment, less turn a vital profit at the betting system.
Attorneys representing the sports leagues said the appeal is expected, and that, within the absence of latest arguments, they expect the consequences to make sure the former decision.
