The second edition of the World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific (WSOP APAC) kicked off in Melbourne today, bringing in yet one more great poker event in an effort to keep us busy until October 18.
The 2014 edition of the WSOP APAC features double the bracelet events than it offered in 2013, with 10 WSOP bracelets at the line right at Melbourne's Crown Casino. "WE'RE excited to go back to Melbourne in 2014 for WSOP APAC and the start of a brand new era for our international championships,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart earlier this summer.
"The WSOP standard is bigger, better and different. Moving to a rotational approach, with one international event per year permits better organization and more marketing in each region. We also wish to do right by the players, and supply more value for his or her travel dollar. There's a glut of poker tournaments across the world, and our vision is to every year placed on a single global showcase that can’t be missed."
Some of the world's top players will join the action and battle one card after the opposite to climb right to the top spot of the WSOP Player of the Year race.
As PokerNews Editor-in-Chief Donnie Peters mentioned within the first post of our live blog, "Brandon Shack-Harris currently leads that fight with 752 points, but George Danzer is nipping at his heals with 745.2 points. Daniel Negreanu, last year's WSOP Asia-Pacific Main Event champion, sits fourth with 519.08 and could also be the reigning WSOP Player of the Year."
Eyes at the AU$1,100 No-Limit Hold'em Accumulator
The new version of the WSOP APAC began today with the Event #1: AU$1,100 No-Limit Hold'Em Accumulator, a tournament that during 2013 was won by American Bryan Piccioli and that has delivered to the tables 1,085 entries and generated a complete prize pool of AU$1,085,000. The event has three starting days and runs with the "accumulator" format, this means that players could be allowed to go into anywhere from one to a few starting days and convey all chips accumulated from the Day 1s into Day 2.
Among the opposite marquee events of the 2014 WSOP APAC, the AU$10,000 Main Event with a view to start on Oct. 12, and the AU$25,000 High-Roller Event set to kick off on Oct. 15.
