Seth Davies outlasted a field of 417 entries to win the 2016 PartyPoker World Poker Tour Canadian Spring Championship $3,500 CAD no-limit hold’em main event. The 27-year-old poker pro hailing from Bend, OR dominated the six-handed final table, eliminating four of his five opponents en path to winning his first WPT title and the first-place prize of $226,893 CAD ($176,228 USD).

Davies entered the general table in second chip position behind Canada’s Ruben Perceval. Davies made up some ground by knocking out WPT champion and final table live commentator Tony Dunst in sixth place ($39,922 USD).

He then overtook the lead by scoring the rare double knockout when short stack Guillaume Nolet moved all-in with the A7 and was called by Thomas Taylor with pocket nines within the small blind. Davies had found pocket kings within the big blind and made the decision. Neither of his opponents were capable of come from behind and he eliminated two players in a single fell swoop, jumping into the lead with 65 percent of the chips in play going into the general three.

Perceval busted Joel Miller in third place ($89,763 USD) to establish the general heads-up showdown. Davies began with a chip advantage but Perceval was in a position to mount a short-lived comeback before Davies began to pull away.

In the overall hand of the tournament Davies raised to to 275,000 from the button with blinds of 60,000 – 120,000 and antes of 20,000. Perceval made the decision and the flop brought the 1094. Perceval checked and Davies cut out a big gamble of 375,000. Perceval made it 1,075,000 total and Davies made the decision. The turn brought the 7 and Perceval bet 800,000. Davies made the decision and the 5 completed the board. Perceval announced that he was all in for 2,880,000. After a while within the tank Davies made the decision with the K10 for a couple of tens with a king kicker. Perceval could only produce the 87 for a busted open-ended straight draw that made a smaller pair at the turn.

With that Davies secured the pot and the title while Perceval was sent to the rail because the runner-up, earning $180,088 CAD ($115,598 USD).

For the win Davies was awarded 1,080 Card Player Player of the Year points, enough to transport him into 67th place within the overall standings. Sixth-place finisher Tony Dunst earned 360 points at his second major final table of the year. The 2016 Aussie Millions $10,000 main event runner up now has 2,260 total points and $739,922 in year-to-date earnings. In consequence he has climbed into eighth place at the leader board.
