Blackjack and Table Gambling Come to Delaware



After a disastrous try to institute sports betting, Delaware begins table gambling this week at state racinos.

Play Now at Rome Casino Delaware, which has tried to expand its gambling portfolio in lots of ways oinly to seek out its path blocked, will begin play at table games over Memorial Day weekend. Blackjack, roulette, poker, and other kinds of casino gambling can be phased into the state's three racetrack casinos.

Harrington Raceway and Casino is predicted to start out play on the new games on Monday. Over the next month, the games may be added to the opposite two racinos, Dover Downs and Delaware Park.

Delaware officials have struggled to maintain state gaming revenue high as competitio from neighboring states has increased dramatically. Maryland has voted to put in slot gambling at tracks and other locales, and Pennsylvania is adding table games to its extensive casino network.

Delaware Governor Jack Markell had hoped to have full-fledged sports betting available on the racinos, but a surprise court victory by the NFL prevented much of the lucrative sports gambling from being implemented. In step with court rulings, only parlay gambling on pro football fit the grandfather exemption Delaware is granted by federal law banning sports wagering.

Millions in potential revenue was lost by the state when the courts decided to restrict the sports betting plan, and the racinos were faced with the lack of investments made in preparing for sports gaming. State officials hope table games can assist cover probably the most lost revenue from the governor's planned gambling budget.
