Steve O'Dwyer Wins 2016 PCA $50,000 Single-Day High Roller

Steve O’Dwyer is dominating the super high roller tournament scene. Since the start of November 2014 he has won four tournaments with buy-in’s of $50,000 or more and made seven such final tables, cashing for $7,003,209 in super high roller events alone over that 14-month span.

O’Dwyer’s latest addition to his high roller resume came in the 2016 European Poker Tour PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $50,000 single-day no-limit hold’em super high roller event. He emerged victorious from a field of 80 entries to capture the title, the first place prize of $945,495 and 816 Card Player Player of the Year points.

Less than a week before arriving in the Bahamas, O’Dwyer finished fourth in the World Poker Tour $200,000 Triton Super High Roller Cali Cup in Philippines for $953,700 and 300 POY points. Just ten days into the year O’Dwyer already has accumulated $1,899,195 in earnings and 1,116 POY points, enough to catapult him into the lead in the Player of the Year race.

O’Dwyer was one of 58 unique players that garnered the 80 total entries in this tournament. With blind levels lasting only 30 mins the action was fast and furious by design. The top 11 finishers made the money, with Paul Volpe being the unfortunate player to burst the $96,500 money bubble by finishing in 12th place.

Among those who made the final table were recent PCA $100,000 super high roller winner Bryn Kenney (7th – $185,280), eight-time bracelet winner Erik Seidel (5th – $301,080), Isaac Haxton (4th – $380,200) and rising star Ivan Luca (3rd – $494,080).

In the end it came down to a heads-up showdown between O’Dwyer and Connor Drinan. The two made a deal after the elimination of Luca that guaranteed O’Dwyer $914,811 and secured $870,625 for Drinan, leaving $30,684 and the title to play for. Not long after O’Dwyer shoved from the button with the ADiamond Suit3Diamond Suit and Drinan made the call with the QDiamond Suit10Heart Suit. The board ran out 6Spade Suit4Spade Suit3Heart SuitAHeart Suit5Spade Suit and O’Dwyer made two-pair to secure the title and send Drinan to the rail in second place.

O’Dwyer now has career lifetime live tournament earnings of $13,932,150 and has climbed to 15th place on the all-time money list.

Here is a look at the payouts and POY points awarded at this final table:
