3.10pm: Esfandiari doubles
Level 10 - Blinds 500-1,000 (100 ante)
Ari Engel and Antonio Esfandiari got into an pre-flop raising battle that ended with a six-bet shove from Engel. Esfandiari called all-in with [as][kh] and was flipping against Engel's [qc][qh].
The [9h][ks][9d][kc][2d] board fell in Esfandiari's favour and he doubled up to about 135,000. -- AV
3:05pm: Qu's boss
Level 10 - Blinds 500-1,000 (100 ante)
Boyuan Qu's stack easily towers above the rest of his tablemates and is one of the biggest in the tournament at 270,000. Qu got a few of those chips off Talal Shakerchi, who is seated to Qu's left.
In the first of two consecutive losses to Qu, Shakerchi re-raised to 6,000 from after Qu raised. Qu called.
The flop came [kh][kd][3c] and Qu checked. Shakerchi bet 7,300 and Qu called, bringing a [qc] on the turn. Both players checked and a [js] completed the board. Both players checked again and Qu showed [kd][9d] while Shakerchi mucked.
Qu opened to 2,300 from the hijack and Shakerchi called from the cutoff. Asif Warris called from the button and and Brandon Crawford did the same from the big blind.
Qu bet 4,600 on the [4d][8s][4c] flop and only Shakerchi called. The turn brought a [5h] and a 9,700 bet from Qu. Shakerchi called and a [3d] fell on the river.
Qu grabbed chips for a bet but Shakerchi folded before he even counted them out.
The hand left Shakerchi with about 30,000 while Qu neared the tournament chip lead with nearly 270,000. -- AV

There's no easy way to say this, but if your future prosperity depends on any of Facundo Lambre, Noomis Jones, Kenneth Aldridge, John Castana Becerra, Zachary Korik, Fatima Moreira de Melo, Michele Saccani, Sven Michael Lucha, Francisco Correia de Oliveira, David Olshan, Mustapha Kanit, Eduardo Sanchez, Paul Dlugozima, Dario Sammartino, Angel Penalver, Sylie Lamoureux, Shakeeb Kazemipur, Richard Wagner, Erwann Pecheux, Yann Dion, Brian Peterson, Timothy Fisher, Ramesh Puradchithasan, Bruce Yamron, Dzmitry Urbanovich, Davide Suriano, Paul Snead, Konstantinos Nanos, Gorki Oliveira, Paul Volpe, Alejandro Rodriguez, Leonardo Martins, Simon Auerbacher, Pavel Machac, Antonio Dominguez, Nikolay Komcharokov, Todd Brunson, Daniel Ghionoiu or Claudio Pagano winning the PCA Main Event, you better start making alternative plans. 2:45pm: Mercier puts an end to Beckley's main event

November Niner Josh Beckley is out, sent to the rail by Jason Mercier.
Mercier has had a great start to Day 2. Having returned to play with 21,900 he's now sitting behind a stack worth 165,000. This latest hand helped.
On a flop of [4d][7h][ac] Beckley bet 7,500 from the big blind which Mercier raised to 19,000. There followed a long period of reflection, at the end of which Beckley moved all-in for about 45,000 more. Mercier snap-called.

Beckley knew his time was up. The [ts] turn and [qs] river did nothing to help him, and he walked away from the table. Meanwhile Mercier's day gets better and better.-SB
2:30pm: Kamel and Chidwick clash
Level 10 - Blinds 500-1,000 (100 ante)
A big hand between Tamer Kamel and Stephen Chidwick leaves the former with around 170,000 chips.
With the board showing [6s][9s][jd][8h] and more than 12,000 in the pot, Kamel bet 5,500 from the big blind. Chidwick paused for a minute before calling for a [4h] river card. Kamel again came out betting, making it 13,500 to play. Chidwick paused again, but couldn't call. While Kamel's star continues to rise, Chidwick slips to 37,000.-SB
Meanwhile, Jason Mercier is up to 84,000
2:25pm: The chair strikes again
Level 10 - Blinds 500-1,000 9100 ante)
Remember earlier when we said that Paul Volpe had replaced Patrik Antonius in the same seat? If you missed it, you'll find the post at 1:10pm.
Well, it looks like the seat has been unlucky for Paul Volpe too. Who will be next to sit down in this fateful chair, and should we warn them? --JS
2.05pm: Swift Zvi
Level 10 - Blinds 500-1,000 (100 ante)
Zvi Stern has sped up his game.
When the WSOP ME was down to two tables, tournament staff made the tournament go hand-for-hand early because Stern was taking so long to act. This continued a bit at the final table but it seems like Stern has a new resolution for 2016: play often and play fast.
In about an orbit of play, Stern has played most of the hands. If action is folded to him, he'll raise.
If he's under-the-gun, he'll open to 2,200. In that hand, Branimir Barac called from the big blind and the flop came [7d][7s][3h]. Barac checked and Stern quickly bet 1,900. Barac checked again when the [9h] came on the turn and Stern instantly bet 4,000.
The river brought another nine and another check form Barac. Stern came out with another quick bet, but this was a small, single-chip bet worth 1,000.
Barac raised to 11,000 and Stern called. Barac had a full house and Stern mucked. That didn't stop Stern from playing the next hand and he won a few of his chips back.
Part of Stern's play could stem from the fact that he's the table chip leader with about 120,000 and has room to manoeuvre.
We'll see if he can follow up his 5th place Main Event finish with another major final table to start the year. -- AV
2:15pm: Wan won one
Level 10 - Blinds 500-1,000 (100 ante)
Kevin Wan has been involved in several pots since the start today, but the last few have not gone his way. But after dropping out of a three-way hand with Ladouceur and Barry Greenstein (won by Greenstein with a re-raise on the flop), Wan finally won one.
Jonathan Little opened for 2,300 in the hijack which Wan called from the button. Eduardo Sanchez in the big blind would also call. But Wan would win it on the [jc][8s][2h] flop, betting 3,000 to stop the rot. Having started with 26,300 he's now up to 40,000.
Imagine Wan won a $1K event here. Imagine the headlines! -- SB
2:10pm: Oh no! Not Moreira de Melo!
Level 10 - Blinds 500-1,000 (100 ante)
Oh Fatima. It's with a heavy heart that we have to report Team PokerStars: Sportstars very own beloved Fatima de Melo has been knocked out of the Main Event here in the Bahamas.
She came into the day short, and had just 12,000 at the break. That had slid down to 10,000 when we arrived at her table in time to see her shove all-in over Chad Eveslage's 2,300 pre-flop open.
After he made the call, the dealer burned and turned a board which read [qh][9s][2s][as][4c]. Moreira de Melo was ahead until the turn with her pocket sevens, but Eveslage's [ad][ts] just pipped her to the post on fourth street. Better luck next time Fatima - on to the next one. --JS
2:05pm: Ladouceur forced to fold

Helio Chreem opened in early position, making it 2,500 to play, which Marc-Andre Ladouceur then raised to 8,000 from the small blind. Chreem called for a [4h][8d][3s] flop, which he checked to Ladouceur.
The Canadian bet 9,500 which this time Chreem raised to 25,000. Ladoucuer, sitting with chips and a chicken sandwich on a plate in his lap, paused for a moment, looked again, then passed. He's down to 95,000.-SB

1:35pm: Akkari out-flopped...and also...out

Andre Akkari's 2016 PCA Main Event is finished. With betting all the way to river on an all under-card board, Akkari might have had good reason to think his pocket tens were good. Instead, American Anthony Newman had flopped a set of deuces and got all of Akkari's stack.
1.20pm: Millionaire's table
Level 9 - Blinds 400-800 (100 ante)
Alexander Lynskey, Karam Alfonse and Vladamir Negodiaev occupied on third of the seats at table 60, but their live combined live-tournament earnings accounted for only 1.6 percent of the table's.
All three players were lucky enough to qualify for the PCA Main Event, but all of them were unlucky to find themselves at one of the most difficult tables in the tournament.
Ryan D'Angelo was seated to Negodiaev's left, followed by Cary Katz, Sam Stein, Dzimitry Urbanovich, Thiago Nishijima and Dan Shak.
Combined, these six players have a total of $24.6 million in live tournament earnings and two WSOP bracelets. Thiago Nishijima became the third Brazilian to win a WSOP bracelet last year and Ryan D'Angelo final tabled the PCA Main Event back in 2010.
They know how to win, and that's exactly what they came here to do.
But the shark-infested table created by chance has dissipated into the tournament area just as quickly as it appeared. Tables are breaking quickly and much to our qualifiers' delight they were the next to go.
Pretty much every other table in the tournament would be softer than the now defunct table 60. --AV
1:15pm: Day 2 chip leader takes a hit
Level 9 - 400-800 (100 ante)
The man who led the field coming into Day 2 was Brit superstar Toby "810ofclubs" Lewis. However he hasn't got off to the best start today.
On an [8d][7h][6d] board, Alan Kessler checked over to Lewis who put out a bet of 3,000. Frits Heckler made the call and Kessler got out of the way, taking us to a [2d] turn. Now Lewis made it 7,500 to go and Heckler called once more. The [6s] completed the board and now the bet from Lewis was 14,000, and it didn't take long for Heckler to make the call. Lewis confidently showed his nut flush with the [ad][jd], but it wasn't enough to beat Heckler's [7d][7c] for a full house.
Lewis might not be off and running yet, but he's still one of the biggest stacks in the room. And reading over that hand once again, it seems like the pot should have been considerably bigger than it turned out to be. --JS
13:10pm: Two beasts, one chair
Level 9 - 400-800 (100 ante)
Patrik Antonius is a familiar face around these parts, and a man of much mystique. We knew his poker face was good, but we didn't know it was good enough to make him look like an entirely different person altogether.
He was on a table with Scott Clements, and early knock-out Ike Haxton, but within five minutes he seems to have mysteriously transformed himself into tournament beast Paul Volpe. Or maybe Antonius just got knocked out and Volpe was moved into the same seat. That's much more plausible, but much less fun.
Here's hoping that Volpe has more luck in that chair. --JS
1:05pm: Lunge Only
Level 9: Blinds 400/800 (Ante 100)
There is a lot of detritus that surrounds a normal PCA player: food containers, tournament receipts, IDs, and if they are lucky, stacks of chips. Antonio Esfandiari has one more thing: a sign that reads "Lunge Only."
He's in the middle of a bet with business tycoon Bill Perkins in which, to win, Esfandiari must not walk but lunge everywhere he goes for 48 hours. To the bathroom? Lunge. To the tournament room? Lunge. Into the sea? Lunge.
When we walked in today, Esfandiari was just sitting in a chair in the middle of the convention center hallway (with a baby in his lap). Baby or not, we won't blame Esfandiari if he does his best to simply sit in his seat playing poker all day.
1:00pm: Ramdin back in the game
Level 9 - Blinds 400-800 (100 ante)
Victor Ramdin just secured a crucial triple up to stay alive, albeit a modest one. He pushed for 5,200 under the gun which was called by Shola Deadman before Mark Herm moved all-in for 35,000. That forced Deadman to fold.

12.55pm: New names; competition toughens

Registration was open until the start of today and at least 29 players bought in at the very start. Although there are a couple of unfamiliar names in there, the list mainly represents those who have spent the past two days playing Super High Rollers, Single-Day High Rollers and making the final tables of other side events.
It's a spectacularly tough field that just got even harder. Here's the list of recent appearances:

12.50pm: Five-deuce good for Holz

Fedor Holz just lost a pot, then he won one.
The first was against Victor Figeroa. On a flop of [6s][ah][th] Marc Karam checked, Holz bet 5,000 which Figeroa then called from the button. Karam folded. The turn was the [4c] which was checked for a [ts] river card. Again both players checked, with Holz showing king-queen. Figeroa had an ace though to win the hand.
Then a hand between Holz and Wanda McCarley.
On a flop of [7h][5c][8h] Holz checked from early position, as did McCarley from the cut off. The turn came [3s]. Holz bet 7,200 (watched intently by Ryan Reiss two seats away). McCarley confirmed the amount and then made the call for a [4s] river card. Both players checked, with Holz winning the hand by showing an unlikely five-deuce.
He's up to 50,000.-SB
12:55pm: Anyone hungover?
Level 9: Blinds 400/800 (Ante 100)
You should know that nearly every one of here on the live updates team went straight to bed after dinner last night, and those who didn't only engaged in some light line-dancing (okay, they watched people line dancing) before making it an early night. Nonetheless, this tournament area is ripe for a hangover, or rather, it's ripe for The Hangover.
Among the Day 2 starters here is a woman you might know. Sasha Barrese, the long-suffering bride in The Hangover, is trying to run a short stack up to something manageable. She's not had much success yet today, but, at the very least, she isn't waiting at the altar for a sunburned groom. -BW
12:40pm: O'Dwyer rules!
Level 9 - 400-800 (100 ante)
Fresh from his victory in last night's Single-Day $50,000 High Roller (for $945,495 - yikes!), it's back to business for Mr Steve O'Dwyer. The Irish American is starting the day strong and looks fresh and focused, so we can only imagine the celebration party wasn't anything that would leave him with a sore head today.
He's certainly playing well; in a hand we just caught against Rodrigo Motoki, O'Dwyer opened to 1,800 and Motoki called in the big blind. The dealer spread the [5s][qs][9h] flop which both players checked, resulting in the [5h] on the turn. Now Motoki put out a bet of 3,200, and O'Dwyer almost insta-called. On the [8d] river both players checked and O'Dwyer's ace high ([ac][ts]) was the winner against Motoki's [kh][jd] for a busted gutshot.
If O'Dwyer can add a deep run in this Main Event to his trip, his performance here at PCA 2016 will be remembered for some time. --JS
12:40pm: Kelly knocked off
Level 9 - Blinds 400-800 (100 ante)
Dan Kelly will leave the Bahamas without a PCA Main Event cash yet again.
Kelly raised to 2000 from middle position and Alexander Lynskey re-raised to 4,400 from the cutoff. Kelley called and then called a bet of 4,900 on the [js][4c][8d] flop. The turn brought a [7d] and Lynskey bet enough to put Kelly all-in.
Kelly called with [kc][jc] but it wasn't enough to beat Lynskey's [kd][kh].
Kelly, who has more than $3 million in live tournament earnings and cashed in the LAPT Bahamas Main Event last year, has yet to cash in the PCA Main Event.
While Lynskey knocked out a pro and chipped up to 65,000, he still has a few other dangerous players to contend with at his table.
Ryan D'Angelo, Cary Katz and Sam Stein are all seated next to each other at Lynskey's table.

12:35pm: Keep Sitton's chair warm

Hank Sitton has dinner reservations tonight at The Graycliff. It is arguably the best restaurant in Nassau, and for people who like to eat, it's a must-do when here. Sitton has been planning his meal for a while. He also has reservations for dinner this evening...before play is scheduled to end.
"I hope I have to miss my dinner tonight," he said as he sat down today. He started the day with 46,900, but he's missing a chunk of that now.
With the action folded to him, Sitton made it 1,700 play. Asif Warris sat in the big blind wearing a hat that read "#thinkpositivE."
Warris called to the [4s][3d][6c] flop. Both players checked. On the [8c] turn, Warris led for 2,500. Sitton sneaked a look at his cards and made the call. The river was the [8h], and though none of us knew it at the time, it was ugly for the man who should've #thinkingpostivE. Warris' [6h][4s] had just been counterfeited.
He checked and Sitton bet 7,000. Warris, perhaps with his mind on his hat, shrugged and called anyway. He was right to do it. Sitton held [ac][7h] for just ace-high. Warris was good.
So, no need to cancel those Graycliff reservations yet, Hank. -BW
12.30pm: A good start for Ladouceur
Level 9 - Blinds 400-800 (100 ante)
A limp from Kevin Wan under the gun, and with the action folded back to him in the big blind Marc-Andre Ladouceur checked his option for a flop.
[9d][kd][8c]
Ladouceur checked to Wan who made it 800 to play. Ladouceur called for a turn card [ah], which was checked by both players. The river was a [jd], which would change everything. Ladouceur checked to Wan who bet 2,200. Then he settled down to wait for Ladouceur's response. I'm not sure he was expecting a re-raise, but it came, Ladouceur making it 7,600.
Now it was Wan's turn to think about things. He took a moment, but then called. At which point Ladouceur turned over [7d][3d] for a seven high flush, made on the river. Wan was still making sure his bet call was enough when he saw it. He looked again at his own cards, nodded, and folded. Ladouceur up to 75,000.-SB
12:25pm: Koon making moves
Level 9 - 400-800 (100 ante)
It's been a strong start for Jason Koon who has already increased his stack by around 20,000. It started when Luiz Duarte Ferreira Filho opened to 2,000 and Koon made the call. The flop showed the [5d][6s][3c] and Filho continued for 4,600, but Koon wanted to raise the stakes. He bumped it up to a smooth 13,000 and without much deliberation Filho made the call. The pot was already huge at this point and when Filho checked the [jc] on the turn Koon increased it by making a bet of 8,200. Filho had had enough by this point and slid his cards to the dealer. --JS
12:20pm: Ike's luck runs out
Level 9 - 400-800 (100 ante)
It's hard to feel sorry for a guy who has already won more than $700,000 this week, but a bad beat is a bad beat; you can't be a poker fan without sympathising a little with Isaac Haxton, who just got knocked out by a two-outer in just the second hand of the day. Ike's pocket queens were up against Sergey Sergeev's pocket tens. All the money went in pre-flop, and the queens were still in front after the first three community cards were dealt. A ten on the turn ended it all, however, and with no lady luck on the river Ike made his exit. "I've had enough luck this week," he said. --JS
12.05pm: A good start for Mercier
Level 9 - Blinds 400-800 (100 ante)
A good start for Jason Mercier a few minutes into the day, on a table alongside Alex Fitzgerald and Noah Schwartz. He called a pre-flop raise from Josh Beckley, for a flop of [kd][6s][ks]. Mercier checked to Beckley who bet 2,000, which Mercier then called. It was the same story on the [jh] turn when Mercier check-called Beckley's bet of 4,700. On the river card [7s] though both players checked, Mercier turning over [ad][js].
Beckley grinned slightly, and looked at his cards again for a quick post-mortem of where things went bad. Then he mucked his cards. Mercier up to around 30,000.-SB
12:02pm: Keith Lehr sits, shoves, leaves
Level 9: Blinds 400/800 (Ante 100)
Keith Lehr wasn't going to nurse his short stack today. If it had been a baby, Lehr would've thrown it in a barrel of milk to see if could swim. When Thomas Hueber opened for 2,000, Lehr shove his 18,700 stack in the middle. Hueber put out the one-chip call and flipped over [ah][as]. Lehr's [qh][th] flopped nothing and, like a baby in a barrel, was sunk by the river. Lehr, his seat still cool, was out the door before Hueber had finished stacking his chips. -BW
11:30am: Preparing for Day 2
