Penultimate Stop of MSPT Season 6 at Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells November 14-22

The Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) is currently at Golden Gates Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado for their $1,100 buy-in $200,000 guaranteed Main Event – which you can follow in our live blog by clicking here – but it's never too soon to look ahead to the next stop.

In the penultimate stop on the Season 6 schedule, the MSPT will visit Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells from November 14-22. The stop will feature numerous qualifiers, and will then culminate with a $1,100 buy-in $200,000 guaranteed Main Event beginning on Friday, November 20.

The PokerNews Live Reporting team will be on hand to capture all the action from that event, which means players will have the opportunity to use the MyStack app to update their hands and chip counts straight into the live blog.

To download the MyStack app absolutely free on either Apple or Android, click here.

The last time the MSPT visited Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells was way back in February for the Wisconsin State Poker Championship, a tournament that attracted 463 runners and saw Ben Wiora walk away with the $114,512 first-place prize.

Wiora has subsequently relocated to Las Vegas, but he did confirm to PokerNews that he would be returning home to Wisconsin to defend his title.

"It's always an exciting time when the MSPT rolls into town," said Wiora. "Both the property and MSPT put on a great tournament, and there's also plenty to do off the felt given Ho-Chunk is just down the road from Wisconsin Dells. Hopefully I'll be too busy defending my title to do anything else but play poker!"

WSOP 2015: The 2015 November Nine
2015 November Nine_WSOP.jpg

After a long 11 days, and an even longer summer, the World Series of Poker is at an end, for now at least.

The four month hiatus between the last hand of the Summer and the start of the November Nine starts now. The names of those players are now known, but it is perhaps the name that isn't there that garners the most attention the morning after.

Team Pro Daniel Negreanu came within two places of the final table, busting in 11th place after a dramatic day long rear-guard fight, during which Negreanu played immaculately. It seemed at the start of each new level it was assumed Kid Poker could hold on no longer, but hold on he did.

But he couldn't overcome the final table chip leader Joe McKeehen, whose enormous advantage allowed him to speculate a little easier than the others. He finally put an end to Negreanu's campaign in last card style.

You can read that story here, which sums up the air of disappointment, but also the triumph of this event in providing such a wonderful spectacle. But now it's time to give the final nine their due.

For they deserve their place in the spot light, and fought hard to earn it. Here's how they'll line up later this year.

1. Zvi Stern (Israel) 29,800,000 (74 big blinds)
2. Pierre Neuville (Belgium) 21,075,000 (52)
3. Joshua Beckley (United States) 10,800,000 (27)
4. Max Steinberg (United States) 20,200,000 (50)
5. Thomas Cannuli (United States) 12,250,000 (30)
6. Joe McKeehen (United States) 64,100,000 (160)
7. Patrick Chan (United States) 6,225,000 (15)
8. Federico Butteroni (Italy) 6,200,000 (15)
9. Neil Blumenfield (United States) 22,000,000 (55)

They'll become familiar names in the coming weeks as the media tell their stories. But before we sign off from the 2015 World Series a word on a couple of them, starting with chip leader Joe McKeehen.

You could say that McKeehen ran hot, got cards and found an easy route the final table. But that would not tell the full story of this talented young player. The proof of that comes in the a stack worth 64 million, more than double that of second placed Zvi Stern. McKeehen might feel that the break works against him, such is his form right now. We'll find out later in the year.

Then there is that other name that of Pierre Neuville, the EPT regular, astounding the poker world whether they like it or not with his enthusiasm and ability. He is three times the age of some of his opposition - proof were it needed, of poker's universal appeal. Neuville may be older that the youngsters who claim poker as their own, but he will return in November chasing his own dreams.

Others we saw today will give them a fight when the Rio comes to life again, all of whom are about to be beamed around the world in the build up to one of the richest prizes in world poker.

For now, let the curtain fall on the WSOP summer as we turn our attention to things closer to home. That said, it was a great summer in Las Vegas.

MicroMillions 6: mark_999 rallies to win Sunday Storm Special Edition and Event #97 $11 NL

It was a revolutionary type of day for mark_999. The Canadian advanced to the final table of MicroMillions 6 Event #97, yet he found himself near the back of the pack. mark_999 waited for the perfect moment to peak at the right time. Along the way, he snapped off pocket Queens with a fortuitous flop, and in another hand, his own pocket Kings held up in a decisive pot. However, mark_999 still found himself as the short stack when he took part in a money chop with three players remaining. Even though he was way behind, mark_999 was not deterred one bit. He somehow got heads-up and woke up with pocket Aces at the perfect time. He avoided an elimination and picked up a timely double up. On the very next hand, mark_999 delivered a stunning knock out blow to successfully complete a come-from-behind victory and win MicroMillions Event #97.

MicroMillions 6 Event #97 $11 NL also doubled as the Sunday Storm Special Edition, which drew in 52,491 runners. They created a prize pool worth $524,910, which was significantly more than the guaranteed prize pool of 300K. The top 6,633 places paid out with $38,110.83 set aside to the eventual champion. That is a juicy dividend on a mere $11 investment.

The Sunday Storm progressed at a rapid pace. Three hours passed before the money bubble popped. Over 90% of the field was liquidated in the first 3.5 hours.

The frantic pace slowed down during the final two tables. Action went hand-for-hand with ten to go, and flaviusff leading the way with over 50 million. Slovakia's KovTa bubbled off the final table in tenth place when A♦J♠ unfortunately lost to mark_999's K♥8♦ after mark_999 flopped two pair. With KovTa's bustout, the final table of nine was set.

MM6_E97_FT.jpg

Event #97 - Final Table Chip Counts:
Seat 1: patrik2003 (37,534,946)
Seat 2: TheCTrain (25,509,603)
Seat 3: Sevathebes46 (16,574,678)
Seat 4: mark_999 (22,235,169)
Seat 5: flaviusff (56,278,605)
Seat 6: seby cacho (12,396,885)
Seat 7: TocalaSam (48,524,796)
Seat 8: StackYou780 (9,760,692)
Seat 9: HAL7000 (33,639,626)

The final table for this Sunday Storm Special commenced during Level 49 with blinds at 325K/650K and a 65K ante. Romania's flaviusff held the lead with 56.2 million, while StackYou780 clung to the short stack with a shade under 10 million.

StackYou780 eliminated in 9th place

The final table played out almost three full levels before someone busted. And it was one heck of a cooler... seby cacho opened to 2.4 million, StackYou780 bombed it all-in for 14,701,384 with K♦K♠, and seby cacho called with J♥J♦. The board ran out 6♥4♠2♠J♣4♣. seby cacho turned a set of Jacks and rivered a boat to win the pot. StackYou780 had Kings brutally cracked and became the first player to bust at the final table. StackYou780 took home $2,005.15 for a ninth-place finish.

TheCTrain eliminated in 8th place

TheCTrain min-raised to 2 million, mark_999 bumped it up to 5,454,599, TheCTrain moved all-in for 10,813,911, and mark_999 called. TheCTrain led with Q♠Q♦ against mark_999's A♠Q♣. The board ran out A♦K♠4♥5♣4♣. TheCTrain's Queens were cracked and mark_999 won the pot with two pair -- Aces and fours. For eighth place, TheCTrain collected $3,401.41.

With seven remaining, HAL7000 took over the lead with 50 million, but mark_999 was not far behind with 49 million.

Sevathebes46 eliminated in 7th place

Wrong time to get ambushed by cowboys. patrik2003 min-raised to 2.4 million, Sevathebes46 re-raised to 4.8 million, mark_999 four-bet to 13.2 million, patrik2003 folded, and Sevathebes46 called all-in for 4,549,678. Sevathebes46 made a final stand with A♥8♥, but he ran into mark_999's K♠K♦. The board ran out K♣Q♥4♣4♦6♠. mark_999 flopped a set of Kings and turned a boat. Sevathebes46 failed to improve and hit the virtual rail in seventh place, which paid out $4.986.64.

With six to go, mark_999 took over the chip lead with 61 million.

HAL7000 eliminated in 6th place

Short-stacked HAL7000 open-shoved for 15,456,121 with Q♦T♥ and monster-stacked mark_999 called with A♦T♦. The board ran out K♦9♣7♦9♠4♠. HAL7000 flopped a gutshot draw, but neither player improved by the river. mark_999 won the pot with an Ace-high kicker. HAL7000 was taken offline in sixth place, which paid out $7,180.76.

TocalaSam eliminated in 5th place

Action did not play out five-handed for more than an orbit before someone bowed out. seby cacho min-raised to 3.2 million, TocalaSam bombed it all-in for 23,615,897 with A♦2♥, and seby cacho called with A♥Q♦. seby cacho was ahead and his hand would hold up when the board ran out 7♣5♠4♦T♠T♦. TocalaSam flopped a Wheel gutshot draw, but failed to get there. Portugal's TocalaSam was knocked out in fifth place, which paid out $10,755.40.

With four players remaining, mark_999 was the leader with 98.4 million, seby cacho was second with 85.4 million, patrik2003 was third with 48.9 million, and flaviusff brought up the rear with 29.6 million.

flaviusff eliminated in 4th place

With four to go... mark_999 min-raised to 4 million, flaviusff re-raised all-in for 28,055,668, patrik2003 called, but mark_999 folded. patrik2003 led with A♥K♥ versus flaviusff's K♦J♥. The board ran out Q♥5♥3♥8♠7♥. patrik2003 flopped an Ace-high flush, which held up. For fourth place, flaviusff earned $14,345.79.

DEAL

With three remaining, action was paused to discuss a deal. At that juncture, patrik2003 held the lead with 98.5 million, seby cacho was second with 83.3 million, and mark_999 was the "shorty' with 80.5 million. They agreed to the following terms with $6,000 left on the table to the eventual champion:

patrik2003 - $26,851.33
seby cacho - $25,481.35
mark_999 - $25,230.10

With a deal in place, play resumed.

seby cacho eliminated in 3rd place

seby cacho min-raised to 5 million, patrik2003 re-raised to 42.5 million with A♠3♦, and seby cacho called all-in for 24,701,051 with K♦T♥. The board ran out J♣4♥4♣3♠8♦ and patrik200 won the pot with two pair -- fours and treys. seby cacho failed to improve, and headed to the rail in third place, which paid out $25,481.35.

HEADS-UP: patrik2003 (Hungary) vs. mark_999 (Canada)
Seat 1: patrik2003 (126,939,109)
Seat 4: mark_999 (135,515,891)

With two remaining, it was a relatively close race, even though mark_999 held a slight lead.

On the second hand of heads up, patrik2003 won a 70 million pot and seized the lead. However, mark_999 got the lead right back after patrik2003 four-bet shoved with A♠T♦ and mark_999 woke up with A♥A♦. Aces held up and mark_999 won a pot worth 240 million. It was all over on the ensuing hand.

patrik2003 eliminated in 2nd place; mark_999 wins Sunday Storm and MicroMillions Event #97

Trailing 240 million to 22.4 million, patrik2003 got his remaining stack all-in preflop with 6♥3♥ and mark_999 called with A♣4♣. The flop was A♦7♦5♥ and patrik2003 picked up a gutshot draw. The turn was the 8♠ and patrik2003 picked up more outs with an open-ended straight draw. The river was the T♣. patrik2003 failed to improve and only held Ace-high, which meant he busted in second place. mark_999 faded a straight and won the pot with a pair of Aces to properly bink Event #97.

For a sensational runner-up performance, Hungary's patrik2003 took home $26,851.33.

Congrats to Canada's mark_999, won earned $31,230.10 for an impressive first place victory in Event #97. mark_999 won a MicroMillions 6 event, which also doubled as the Sunday Storm Special Edition.

Weekend Review: Up the swonnny, and down in Macau

A straight forward weekend on PokerStars designed to suit all tastes. Here's how things turned out.

-- swonnny wins the Sunday Million
-- Merin09 of Poland wins the Warm-up
-- The Asia Championship of Poker gets under way in Macau

Canadian player swonnny took honours in the Sunday Million at the second time of asking. As Kristin Bihr reported, swonnny, who took $179,740 along with the title, went deep in the Million back in March, finishing 16th. This time there was no doubt, finishing things off with aplomb.

MacauTriangle_9nov15.jpg

Meanwhile in the Warm-Up Merin09 of Poland was having similar success. Both of the headline Majors were won without deals, which amounted to more than $80,000 for Merin09 who started the final table second in chips, and steered his stack around the likes of Andrey "ThePateychuk" Pateychuk and Carter "cswidler" Swidler at the final table. Jason Kirk has the full story.

Meanwhile in the world of live poker things got interesting over in Macau where the Asia Championship of Poker kicked off in the early hours of today. More and more these events appeal to the bigger names in the game, with High Rollers such as Mustapha Kanit, Stephen Chidwick, Pratyush Buddiga, Erik Seidel, and recent EPT Barcelona winner John Juanda making the trip to Asia. One name stood out among them all, that of Ronaldo Nazário, who will be playing his first ACOP event on Day 1B. Read that story on the PokerStars Blog.

Meanwhile here are those results in full.

Sunday Warm-up: pastika cooks the competition in victory

new_sunday_warmup_thumb.PNGThis week we returned to the normal sized $500,000 Sunday Warm-up after kojocki took down eamsie last week in a special $1 million guaranteed edition of the Sunday Warm-up celebrating the earlier start times to accommodate people who like to play poker but would rather not have to call into work the next morning with over $100,000 on the line. While it is still going to take a marathon ten plus hours to award this $101,611.21 sitting at the final table for our champion, our victor will get a little more shut-eye and down a few less Red Bulls at the office after taking down the 3,236 players that punched their ticket for this $215 buy-in event.

Team Online Martin AABenjaminAA Hruby was able to find the right cards while cashing in 324th place ($362.43). Team PokerStars pro Jan Heitmann was found a little higher up the pay ladder but after losing a pair of flips bowed out in 154th place ($679.56). Sebastian Ruthenberg also enjoyed a long run tonight but was stopped by iberbiber as pocket sevens for the UK pro was not able to dodge A♣8♣ on a K♦ K♣ 9♦ A♦ 4♦ as Ruthenberg collected $776.64 in 131st place. That left Spanish Team PokerStars pro Juan Maceiras looking to add to his bankroll from the huge €315,000 cash for 5th place at the EPT Madrid Grand Final. With the blinds sitting at 6K/12K ante 1.2K Maceiras would open shove from early position for 218,711 as it folded to BetrThanPhil (who almost snagged a SCOOP watch a few weeks ago in Event #35-L) in the cutoff holding A♣Q♥ and covering Juan's stack. BetrThanPhil would make the call as Maceiras turned over K♥T♦. Despite flopping an open ended straight draw, Macerias would watch the 6♦ Q♣ J♦ 2♥ 4♠ board end his tournament night in 94th place ($906.08).

juan_maceiras_eptgf_wrap.jpg

Juan Maceiras - 94th place

Just after the nine and half hour mark only ten players and two tables remained as hand for hand play trickled into the 80K/160K ante 16K level. migsgreen was hanging on with just 1.1 million facing a raise to 480,000 chips from Ab4r4 in the cutoff. Holding T♥J♥ in the big blind migsgreen fired the rest of his missiles into the middle and got a call from ab4r4 who showed A♠4♦. The jack in the door was good for migsgreen but the second card paired up Ab4r4's ace J♣ A♦ 4♣ 8♣ 2♥ and held for the 2.3 million chip pot shipping $3,883.20 to migsgreen for tenth place and starting our final table below:

SunWarmUp061211.jpg

Seat 1: juancito10 (2896654 in chips)
Seat 2: Grizzlypower (8047090 in chips)
Seat 3: iberbiber (1938681 in chips)
Seat 4: mister MH (2964530 in chips)
Seat 5: circuslover (1663584 in chips)
Seat 6: kronkol (3432072 in chips)
Seat 7: BetrThanPhil (6139493 in chips)
Seat 8: Ab4r4 (3613674 in chips)
Seat 9: pastika (1664222 in chips)

It pays to knock out the Team PokerStars players

Two of our final nine got the distinction of knocking out the resident pros. BetrThanPhil was better than Juan Maceiras and iberbiber took down Sebastian Ruthenberg before both players assured themselves $5,177.60 for making tonight's final table.

Ok, maybe it doesn't pay that well to knock out the Team Pros

With the blinds at 80K/160K ante 16K only Grizzlypower and BetrThanPhil held more than 20 big blinds as the rest of the pack would need to pick a spot soon. Iberbiber's spot was holding J♦A♦ in the small blind calling the chip leader's shove from the button with 1.6 million chips. Grizzlypower would need some help to add to the chip lead flipping up the dominated A♥3♣, and that help wasted no time showing up as the first card on the board paired up the trey, holding on the 3♠ 4♥ A♠ Q♣ 8♠ board to bump iberbiber out in ninth place ($5,177.60).

1-2-3 DODGEBALL!

The time comes in every tournament where you are sitting with a pocket pair hoping it finds a way to dodge a bunch of outs. Ab4r4's turn to start bobbing and weaving came in the hand below:

RSS readers please click through to view video

All-in preflop for 1.2 million holding pocket sixes 6♦6♣ Ab4r4 was looking to parry his way through the board cards as kronkol held A♣Q♦. The flop J♣ 8♣ T♣ added more balls being thrown at the Switzerland player as kronkol picked up straight and flush draws to his overcards. The scoring hit came on the turned 9♥ as the 3♥ on the river did not salvage a chopped straight and Ab4r4 claimed eight place cash ($8,090.00).

Exiting from the big top

Just two hands later BetrThanPhil was already enjoying a decent stack of chips and facing the short stack 1.1 million chip shove by circuslover in the big blind. BetrThanPhil would make the call as well as the chip leader Grizzlypower for a potentially messy pot. The two chip leaders decided not to prod each other and checked down the 3♥6♠ A♦ 8♦ 6♥ board. BetrThanPhil was first to show, turning up two pair J♥A♥ as Grizzlypower and circuslover could only muck their hands while watching another 3.6 million chips slid over to BetrThanPhil. circuslover ride at the carnival came to end in seventh place ($14,562.00).

Two aggressive big stacks enter only one leaves

As mentioned with circuslover's elimination, Grizzlypower and BetrThanPhil held the chip lead with aggression and both of them got their chips in the middle preflop with the blinds at 125K/250K ante 25K for a whopping 12.8 million chip pot. Watch the results below:

RSS readers click through to view video

The big hand showed to be a big cooler for Grizzlypower holding big slick A♠K♥ to BetrThanPhil's aces A♦A♣. No miracles 6♣ 4♦ 6♥ 9♦ 4♣ and no chips for Grizzlypower as the former chip leader's growl became a soft as a whisper exiting the final table cave in sixth place ($21,034.00).

BetrThanAces? Didn't think so

With the blinds holding at 125K/250K ante 25K for a few more hands, BetrThanPhil took a little hit to his massive stack while doubling up pastika but still held an eight figure pile of chips. After kronkol raised it up to 750K from the small blind, BetrThanPhil slyly gave the raise a little bump to 1.25 million. Holding just 219,844 more behind, kronkol called showing a suited ace A♦9♦. kronkol would need some diamonds to overcome the pocket aces A♣A♥ that seemed to have reappeared in BetrThanPhil's hand. Drawing dead by the turn T♠ 4♣ K♠ 7♦ Q♠ kronkol watched another tournament life fall to BetrThanPhil's aces, finishing in fifth place ($27,506.00). This would be kronkol's second fifth place finish in the Sunday Warm-up equaling his February 2010 feat.

Fans love quick deals (and so do bloggers)

Team Online's Andre Coimbra heeded the call of our remaining four to hash out a deal, and in less time than it took to type this sentence the players took home the below amounts with $10,000.00 set aside for the winner.

pastika: $76,627.71
BetrThanPhil :$74,609.26
mister MH: $55,550.51
juancito10: $51,154.13

Take it on the run baby

Just one hand after splitting up the cash, pastika put the two smaller stacks on the defensive with a shove from the button. juancito10 looked down at a decent J♠K♥ and made the call for his remaining 3.6 million chips as mister MH folded the big blind. pastika's J♣Q♥ went searching for a lady and found her quickly on the flop 3♥ Q♣ 4♠. Kings managed to stay off the turn 6♥ and river 8♠ as juancito10 profited almost $14K more from making the deal one hand earlier, taking home $51,154.13 in fourth place.

Too much pastika in the pie

Taking down five of six hands in a row, pastika (which sounds like a rare spice but actually is a tackle and bait shop in Wisconsin) continued to increase the chip lead going into the 150K/300K ante 30K blind level. After min-raising from the button, pastika would call mister MH's 4.5 million chip shove from the small blind. mister MH showed pocket eights 8♥8♠ and pastika would need to shake and bake a bit for the win again, as his pocket fives 5♣5♠ were dominated. 9.4 million in the middle and all of it would slide to pastika after another two outer spiked, this time with a dramatic five on the river Q♣ 2♦ T♥ T♠ 5♥ ending mister MH's night in third place ($55,550.51). The win set up the potential long heads-up battle below.

Potential not reached, winner found quickly

Two aggressive players but both had plenty of chips to fight it out for the extra $10K and title of Sunday Warm-up champion. pastika's 20.6 million to BetrThanPhil's 11.6 would find all of their chips in the middle preflop after just six minutes of heads-up play. BetrThanPhil was ground down to 8.6 million and blinds sitting at 200K/400K ante 40K when the decisive hands played out below:

RSS readers click through to view video

BetrThanPhil 4♦4♥
pastika A♣7♥

A race for the win as pastika would need to catch something one last time to deny BetrThanPhil the title. It would wait for the turn but sure enough a seven managed to appear on the K♣ K♠ 5♣ 7♦ 8♣ board ending BetrThanPhil's night as the runner-up ($74,609.26) shipping the extra $10K to our champion pastika!

Transparent screen display—CDS

Crystal Display Systems (CDS) has installed a transparent display at a Hard Rock Café in Orlando. Hard Rock Café have implemented a transparent screen in their popular restaurant in Florida to showcase classic music memorabilia from The Beatles.

A 21.5″ transparent showcase can be found in the very popular restaurant showcasing a pair of sneakers and an Abbey Road sign. They are fronted with a transparent screen which has some great content playing over the memorabilia and of course a great song playing by The Beatles too. The content is even simply black and white but this does not affect its impact, it even heightens it.

Many of CDS’ customers have found these high-impact transparent displays are unmatched when it comes to making a powerful impression of a message on passers-by, setting the mood for many environments and engaging consumers with a brand. CDS always receive the greatest feedback from their transparent end products as well as the kits they provide for their customers to build their own solutions.

CDS managing director Chris Bartram commented “we are always very grateful and ultimately impressed when our customers share their end result with us, obviously this is not always possible for whatever reason, but it is always nice for us as a personal company to see the end result of a project which we have been involved with from the beginning. Transparent technology is constantly growing and becoming increasingly popular. Over the years we have noticed the increase from being key suppliers in the market from the start that designers and architects alike are creating various unique solutions and applications which is very exciting for the technology and exciting for us to see it grow. We are always keen to assist and give advice to these companies with their ideas and designs for their projects and we feel we can offer the best of both worlds which customers will see when they receive excellent products and unbeatable service from right here in the UK.”

Las Vegas Supply Continues to Outpace Demand as Casinos Expand

CityCenter's opening and expansion by Planet Hollywood and the Hard Rock bring more rooms to fill and gambling space to run to a Las Vegas already saturated with casino and resort space.

The opening by stages of the vast CityCenter complex has many Las Vegas residents happy at the prospect of 10,000 new jobs, but gambling analysts are watching closely to see if the thousands of rooms and square feet of gambling space can be filled by a market already soft on demand. Preparation for Monday's openings of new wings of Planet Hollywood and the Hard Rock Hotel brings trepidation to gaming observers, who worry that another 1600 rooms may be the last thing the casino business needs.

Both casinos say they are investing in the future of Las Vegas, and plan the new towers to attract high-rolling guests whose tastes and travelling are unaffected by the recession. But 500 rooms at Planet Hollywood, starting at $350 a night on weekends, may be hard to fill in a town that has seen even the ritziest casinos and resorts drop rates to keep occupancy high.

"The tower is for the upscale customer who wants to enjoy an all-suite product," Planet Hollywood Resort President Bill Feather told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Meanwhile, the Hard Rock additions are to bring the level of amenities at the casino in line with Strip hotels, according to COO Randy Kwasniewski. Penthouse suites and villas top the hundreds of rooms added to a hotel that just expanded in July.

Each Vegas gambling operator is struggling to be ready to get a head start on the industry when prosperity returns to the giant casino resorts. But, with the rising popularity of regional casinos ands Internet gambling, Las Vegas operators may find market tastes have changed leaving the demand for new Vegas rooms permanently soft.

WSOP 2015: Don't count Kid Poker out yet

I was prepared to let Daniel Negreanu go to his trailer and steam during the last break. We had scheduled this interview last night, but by the time the first full break happened today, Negreanu's stack had dwindled down below the six million mark, far below the 40 million he hoped to end the day with.

So, I was going to let him go off and do his thing, but he motioned for me to follow. He was probably the most excited I'd seen him all day. He flew down the back hallway of the Rio with reporter Remko Rinkema struggling to keep pace.

"I'm the most awake I've been since the Main Event started," he said to Rinkema. "I'm ready to use all the moves that I got stored up."

Honestly, I wasn't sure if I believed him, so when Rinkema peeled off, I wondered if Negreanu might send me on my way.

"Walk and talk?" he said.

We bolted out of a locked door into the sunshine where Negreanu opened up his trailer and stepped into the air conditioning. The news was on the TV, but Negreanu paid it no mind. He was actually excited to talk about the day he'd had so far. His state of mind was far different than I expected.

"I feel pumped up. Every pot right now is so meaningful," he said. "I'm not in chill/relax mode. Every one matters. It gets your blood flowing a little more."

Daniel Negreanu_2015 WSOP_EV68_Day 7_Giron_8JG2560.jpg

Negreanu washed his hands and pulled out some tofu and vegetable kabobs. He chewed while he talked. His day so far had not been the best. He'd played and lost a pot worth more than seven million with pocket eights versus pocket aces. Though it was a tough spot, he continued to hold on.

"I'm really just mapping out the table and figuring out which spots I can exploit in different ways," he said.

He didn't want to elaborate on that, because he knows his opponents are reading. He doesn't plan to give anything away.

We talked about more--his plans for the rest of the summer, his health, his "old school" style play, and Justin "stealthmunk" Schwartz--but those stories will have to wait for now. Negreanu is back at his table and trying to turn five million chips into 40 million and a November Nine berth, and we want to see what he does next.

Casinos Propose Online Poker Deal with California

A new proposal by a casino group to tempt lawmakers in California into licensing intrastate online poker offers the state hundreds of millions in annual revenue.

A consortium of casinos and gambling operators is making a new proposal to sweeten the pot for California if the state will license them to run intrastate online poker sites. The group, which includes the Morongo Band of Mission Indians and the Commerce Casino, will offer to partner with the state if the Internet poker rooms are allowed, creating much-needed revenue for a state unable to pay its bills.

The casino group says permitting it to operate online poker will not only help ease the state's financial distress, but also will protect consumers against fraud and identity theft.

"About 1 million Californians are playing poker offshore right now," Patrick Dorinson, a spokesman for the Morongo band, told the Los Angeles Times.

Lawmakers are tempted by the chance to find new funding sources, but also wary of breaking compacts granting native tribes exclusive rights to electronic games of chance. Other tribes have also been reluctant to follow the Morongo lead, afraid to unintentionally nullify deals in place with the state.

Internet gambling experts say intrastate online poker in California could be a multi-billion dollar business. Given that state's tax of 25 percent on Indian gaming profits, that could mean $250 million a year for the state.

UKIPT5 Super Series London Final Table: Level 23-27(30,000/60,000/5,000)

5.00pm: Dale Garrad wins UKIPT5 Super Series for £28,300!

The heads-up may have started with Julien Rouxel in the ascendancy but from the moment it started, it was one way traffic - Dale Garrad blitzing his way to victory.

The pair traded a number of smaller pots but three large ones ensured the destiny of the title would head Garrad-wards.

The first saw a series of raises Julien Rouxel 180,000, Garrad 380,000, Rouxel 925,000 and Garrad shoved over the top instantly, leaving the Frenchman to fold just as quickly.

Garrad now had the lead.

The second key pot saw Garrad raise the button to 180,000 - called by Rouxel.

The flop of K♦Q♣8♥ was checked by both players, but come the turned 6♣, the action went check, Garrad 225,000 and Rouxel sprung into life with a check-raise to 475,000.

Garrad rubbed his chin and called.

The river saw a draw-completing T♣ arrive - Rouxel leading for 700,000 and Garrad calling immediately.

Pocket sixes for Garrad - an exasperated Rouxel turning over K♠8♣ for a flopped top two, undone on the turn.

SuperSeries_London_JulienRouxel_2015_MickeyMay_81392.jpg

The wheels fell off for Rouxel in the heads-up

The end was imminent with Garrad now a 6-1 chip leader.

It arrived when Garrad raised the button to 150,000, called by the Frenchman.

The A♠9♠3♥ board saw both players check.

A Q♥ on the turn however precipated the critical action.

Check, 150,000, check-raise all-in from Ruxel and call!

Dale held A♣7♠ for top pair and Rouxel tabled 6♥8♥ for a semi-bluff. Needing a heart to survive ROuxel instead watched the meaningless 3♠ roll off - Dale's supporters cheering wildly as their man completed the heads-up destruction of Rouxel.

Rouxel smiled wryly, accepting that it was not to be his day - although the £18,800 he collects for second place will go some way to softening the blow of defeat.

It was Dale Garrad however who had bested the rest of the competition to blaze his way to glory, the trophy, the tournament win and a pleasant £28,300 in winnings.

"I'm exhausted, but it feels great," Garrad enthused following his victory.

Click here for a final wrap of the day.

Thanks for following and congratulations Dale Garrad, UKIPT5 Super Series Champion!

SuperSeries_London_DaleGarrad_2015_MickeyMay_81132.jpg

Garrad destroyed the table with his poker and his banter

4.10pm: Andrey Veselov crashes out 3rd(£13,760)
He's been short for sometime, and finally Veselov found what looked like a good spot to pick up some chips, jamming pocket fours on the button.

Timing is everything in poker though and when Rouxel snap-called and showed down tens, it was looking bleak for th Russian.

The board of T♠2♠8♠ was interesting, giving the Frenchman top set but the Russian a flush draw. He gathered his things but Garrad was sure he was fated to stay in. "put your coat back on...."

He was wrong however. The board bricked out A♦J♦ and Veselov's day was completed in 3rd spot - the princely sum of £13,760 awaiting him at the cash desk.

Heads up then for the trophy. 4,125,000 for chip leader Julien Rouxel and 3,085,000 for local favourite Dale Garrad.

Who will win this titantic struggle?

SuperSeries_London_AndreyVeselov_2015_MickeyMay_81250.jpg

3rd for Veselov reward for his sparkling performance

4.02pm: Rouxel goes straight for double
Three-handed most of the play has been between Garrad and Rouxel - the pair sparring regularly.

Given the dynamic between them it was no surprise when blind versus blind it all kicked off.

Garrad limped in, as he has been prone to do, and Rouxel checked his option.

A board of 7♥6♦4♥ saw Garrad check, Rouxel bet 75,000, Garrad check-raise to 210,000, Rouxel make it 400,000 and Garrad shove.

Rouxel called, showing down 5♦8♣ - the nuts!

Garrad sighed and rolled his eyes to the heavens as he turned over aces.

The turned 7♠ gave Garrad some outs but despite Garrad's vocal rail calling for a 7 or ace, it didnt arrive and Rouxel had finally gained the chip lead back - up to 3,000,000.

Garrad meanwhile drops to 3 million.

3.32pm: Critchley departs in 4th place (£11,105)
Needing to make a move before the chunky 25,000/50,000 blinds swallowed him up, Critchley jammed his 560,000 into the middle with K-5, only for Garrad to make another good call with K♠T♠.

A board of J♠6♠8♥7♥A♥ saw Garrad's equity advantage hold and Critchley departed with a series of handshakes and some heartfelt applause, his gutsy challenge for the title gunned down in 4th spot.

£11,105 awaits him at the cash desk but meanwhile we continue 3 handed - Garrad now a monster chip leader.

SuperSeries_London_StevenCritchleyOUT_2015_MickeyMay_81378.jpg

Some clever poker from Critchley yielded 4th spot

3.30pm: Garrad the cunning linguist
Dale Garrad has more than one string to his bow - regularly translating Julien Rouxel's French outbursts to his friends on the rail.

Just before the break Rouxel three-bet a Garrad 80,0000 open successfully - Garrad laying his hand down.

Rouxel conversed in French with his pals on the rail.

"I hope that means "I had it there," joked Garrad to some laughter.

3.25pm: Back in effect
The players have retaken their seats and we are back oin the game. Good luck all!

3.20pm: Chip counts
Here's how they stand as we move into the end game - Dale Garrad with a healthy advantage going into the final stretch.
Dale Garrad 3,455,000
Julien Rouxel 1,770,000
Steve Critchley 575,000
Andrey Veselov 1,420,000

3.10pm: Break Time!!
It's been non stop action at the felt since we sat down, these players playing this final table out with aggression and panache. The remaining four players now have a 20 minute sabbatical to catch their breath and perhaps indulge in another glass or two of champagne. We'll be back shortly to play to a winner.

3.03pm: Kaczmarek exits 5th(£8,710)
Alex Kaczmarek hasn't really been able to find too many spots to chip up today. He lost half his stack doubling up the mini stack of Steve Critchley - his A-2 losing out to Critchley's desperation shove with T-4.

He did manage to then double up with tens versus Dale Garrad's A-8, but his second attempt to pick up a double off Garrad was less successful.

This time when the pair battled preflop, it was Garrad who had the edge - his A♣Q♦ winning out versus Kaczmarek's A♦T♦ over the 8♦8♥5♥6♠2♣ board.

Goof game Kaczmarek - enjoy your £8,710 in hard-earned winnnings.

SuperSeries_London_AlexanderKaczmarek_2015_MickeyMay_81111.jpg

Kaczmarek finishes an impressive 5th

2.44pm: Scratching the Critch
Steve Critchley just suffered a painful beat at the hands of Andrey Veselov to leave his stack in tatters.

The pair were three-way with Dale Garrad to a ten-high board and got their stacks in - Garrad deciding to escape the pot.

Critchley's K-T had a healthy edge over the Russian's Q♠T♠ but spades on turn and river turned his backdoor flush into an actual one.

Critchley let out a strangled groan - left with just a pittance following the hand.

Veselov meanwhile moves up to 1,500,000, challenging for the lead following that slice of fortune.

2.30pm: Purser exits in 6th(£6,590)
The spate of quick eliminations continues - Andy Purser the next man to go. Holding pocket nines he was happy to jam over the toip of the busy Julien Rouxel's open to 80,000 for his 600,000 stack.
However Steve Critchley was lurking behind with pocket tens and made the cold call, duly eliminating the affable Purser when the board ran out A♠3♠A♥2♥8♥.

"Nice hand Steve," Dale Garrad offered as Purser departed to collect his £6,590.
Garrad is several glasses of champagne in at this point. "I hope I get to sit here drinking champagne all afternoon. I play better drunk anyway," he joked as the tournament continued 5 handed.

SuperSeries_London_AndrewPurser_2015_MickeyMay_81122.jpg

Bad timing saw Purser crash out

2.23pm: SPain-ful river sees Cortes out in 7th(£4,840)
Julien Rouxel and Jorge Barcelo Cortes both decided they liked the 8♦7♠6♣ board so much they went to war, Rouxel jamming and Cortes making the call.

Cards on their backs Cortes had a healthy advantage with K♠9♠ v Rouxel's T♥5♣.
However the board ran out 3♣9♥ to sounds of "ouch" from the wincing rail and Cortes was out - his hand bested by Rouxel's straight.

He collects £4,840 for his 7th place finish and we continue 6-handed, Rouxel having vaulted into the lead once more.

2.15pm: Jung is first man down (8th - £3,555)
It's a surprise that no one has been eliminated yet. We've seena number of all-ins and finally one of the shortstacks loses out.

Sebastian Jung was that man, the Frenchman making an understandable button shove with K♦7♠ - only for Garrad to make a good call with K♠J♥ in the small blind.

The board of J♠9♣7♦6♦3♣ saw Garrad home and Jung was left to shake hands, get a smattering of applause and disappear to the cash desk to retrieve his £3,555 for 8th place.

Well played sir! Garrad rises to 1,550,000.

SuperSeries_London_SebastienJungOUT_2015_MickeyMay_81220.jpg

A strong showing from Jung ends in 8th place

2.10pm: Set up hand sees Rouxel rise again
Rouxel really has an aggressive game - so when he peeled a Critchley bet on a 4♠3♣6♣ board - checked the 2♠ turn along with Critchley and bet 450,000 on the 5♥ river, it was no surprise Critchley was curious enough to pay him off,

This time Rouxel had it however - showing 7♥7♦ for the straight. The unfortunate Critchley however rolled over pocket sixes for a flopped set! Nasty river - Rouxel back contending the chip lead once more with 1,500,000.

2.02pm: The lay of the land
Dale Garrad 790,000
Julien Rouxel 1,000,000
Jorge Barcelo Cortes - 366,000
Andy Purser - 520,000
Alex Kaczmarek - 490,000
Steve Critchley - 1,400,000
Andrey Veselov - 1,300,000
Sebastian Jung - 320,000

1.50pm: Jung survives tens moment
A little luck for Sebastian Jung has also seen him home to a double up - his A♦9♦ connecting sweetly with the 5♦3♦2♦7♣2♣ board to see him home to a double-through to 900,000.

The shortstacks are running very well versus the bigger stacks so far - the chip count landscape being turned on itsq head.

1.47pm: Veselov's knavery earns double
A preflop war between Andrey Veselov and Dale Garrad saw Garrad call Veselov's 650,000 re-shove with ace-king and lose out to the Russian's pocket jacks over a baby board.

"Nice hand," said Garrad charitably as he handed over a chunk of shis stack - down to 700,000 now.

1.40pm: Critchley on the march
A huge hand just played out - Steve Critchley jamming for his entire 701,000 stack over the top of a Rouxel open to 60,000.

Rouxel winced a littled but then made the call with pocket nines. He was in trouble as Critchley rolled over kings - duly winning the pot over the 8♥5♦3♦K♣J♣ board.

"I wish I could fine tune my game to get kings every two hours," joked Garrad.

"Then I wouldn't have to raise with J-7 suited."

Not that I'm admitting to raising with that of course," he added quickly. The upshot of the hand was that Steve Critchley is now challenging chip leader Dale Garrad with 1,450,000. Rouxel has been knocked down to 800,000.

1.35pm: Rouxel applies pressure
Unperturbed by losing that early big pot versus Dale Garrad, Julien Rouxel has turned into a betting machine, applying pressure in a variety of spots and forcing folds from almost everyone entering a pot with him.

It's interesting as the players know if they get in a tangle with the Frenchman, their tournament life could well be on the line...

1.32pm: Champagne reception
The players have all been given a glass of champagne to celebrate their final table appearance. Bottoms up!

1.15pm: First blood Dale
You sense Dale Garrad and Julien Rouxel will have some intense battles out there today. The pair were at each other's throats yesterday and the early going suggests more of the same is in the offing.

Moments ago, Garrad limped in from the small blind on Rouxel's big blind. Check from the Frenchman.

The A♠K♣3♦4♠Q♠ board saw Garrad lead for 25,000 flop, 42,000 turn and 81,000 river, where Rouxel suddenly raised to 305,000.

Many people would have baulked at calling such a large portion of their stack but Garrad is made of sterner stuff than most, insta-calling with A♠8♣ for top pair.

ROuxel tabled K♦7♣ having turned his second pair into an unsuccessful bluff.

"Nice snap-call," said Rouxel with a wry smile.

"It's too early for that!" Garrad replied. Garrad up to 2 million, Rouxel takes a hit - down to 1.1 million.

1.06pm: Cards in the air
The players have been buffed, photographed, and are on their way.

Let's see how this final plays out...
